The distinctive elephant hawk moth is so named because its larva bears a resemblance to the end of an elephant's trunk. It waits until dark to fly and collect nectar from honeysuckle, Buddleia, and other flowers. Elephant hawk moths inhabit areas along streams and rivers.

Caterpillar hosts: fireweed, rosebay willowherb, bedstraw, fuschia.
