Take your time at the butterfly exhibit, and get to know what characteristics make a butterfly. In this macro photo, you can see the large compound eye and long antennae. Notice the scales on the wings, which overlap like roof shingles. Most of the photos in this gallery, including this one, are of brush-footed butterflies, which have a reduced pair of front legs. The middle and hind pair of legs are used for walking, but the front pair is too small for movement.
