Yesterday, a friend of mine complained that mosquitoes always seem to choose her in a crowd. She can't go outside without becoming a human pincushion for bloodthirsty mosquitoes. I told her that her feet stink. She didn't appreciate that.

I wasn't just hurling random insults at my friend, though, as I tried to explain to her. Entomologist Daniel L. Kline actually conducted research on what lures mosquitoes, and he found stinky feet are irresistible to them. Kline experimented with using dirty socks as a mosquito lure, and found his 3-day-old socks made the best mosquito magnets.
If you're the sacrificial lamb at barbecues and picnics, you might want to learn what attracts mosquitoes. You can't stop breathing (CO2 attracts mosquitoes), but you can avoid using certain skin care products or eating foods that will make it easier for mosquitoes to find you.
