Each Wednesday, I post a photo of an unnamed insect for you to identify. It's a fun way to practice your insect identification skills. So, grab a field guide and take a closer look at this week's bug of the week. Once you know what it is, leave a comment with your answer. Still not sure what it is? I've left you some clues in the forum.
Last week's bug of the week was a tough one, but Moni and Nick weren't fooled. The strange looking creature emerging from its pupal case was a prairie robber fly, Diogmites angustipennis. This fly is also known as a hanging thief for its habit of dangling upside down from its hind legs as it eats captured prey.

I think the insect is a gray furcula, furcula cinerea. I spent a LONG time looking this one up. I even went through every picture of the photographer! It was hard. Stop that!
