Bug of the Week - April 8, 2009
It's Wednesday once more, and time for another mystery insect challenge. Grab a field guide and take a look at this photo. Do you know which bug this is? Leave your answer here or in the forum. You'll also find a few hints in the forum.
Last week's "bug of the week" winners include norwegica, Kolby, Sallie, and Mobugs41. All four knew the colorful wasp is a cuckoo wasp. Kolby and Mobugs41 correctly identified the mystery insect to the species - Chrysis ignita, sometimes called the ruby-tailed wasp.

June bug?
I believe it is a lined june beetle, probably Polyphylla comes.
Don’t know what it is, but it better not be in my bed tonight!
One of the Polyphylla species.
Probable Antler Beetle of Family Scarabaeidae; Polyphilla comes.
Polyphylla for sure – I’ll break ranks and go with P. gracilis

I think I’m out of my league here, looks like a June bug whose been fasting on white flour mixed with powdered sugar and lost weight everywhere except its feelers LOL
But for all you entomologist types I left a challenge under Debbie’s forum clues. Help me figure out what kind of insect didn’t just bug me but attacked me in an all out assault one night 30 summers go in the Coastal range of Northern California.
