A bee swarm took up residence in a shopping cart in the parking lot of a busy shopping center in Staten Island, NY. May and June are bee swarming months, as colonies become overcrowded and look for new homes.
Residents in several Texas counties are overwhelmed by swarms of crazy rasberry ants, believed to have been introduced from a cargo ship back in 2002. The ants run in all directions, and have a bad habit of crawling inside computers, alarm systems, and other electronics and shorting them out.
A suspicious postal worker in Pennsylvania decided to investigate the scratching noises coming from a package from Tiawan. After officials were notified of the odd box, US Customs and Border Protection x-rayed the box and discovered 26 live Hercules, rhinoceros and Goliath beetles. Obviously, shipping live insects to th U.S. without a permit is a no-no. Both the sender and the recipient are now being investigated.
