BUG-GO

Wednesday January 30, 2008

Looking for a fun way to teach students insect identification? How about a game of BUG-GO! Played similar to Bingo, BUG-GO is a free game created by Patricia Lewis of the University of Kentucky. You can download the game board and insect line drawings to match. From ants to syrphid flies, BUG-GO will teach kids interesting facts about insects, beneficial or pest.

I recommend laminating the game boards so they last longer. For playing pieces, I use rubber insects - you can buy them by the gross. After we play a few rounds of BUG-GO, I take the group outside for a bug hunt, with magnifiers and bug boxes to examine insects up close.
